PRIVATE DMZ TOUR FROM PHONG NHA

Private DMZ tour from Phong Nha

Deep beneath the dark earth, hidden from screeching American Rolling Thunder bombing, the fishmen of the fishing village of Vinh Moc, located just above the DMZ lived for years in an underground refuge of Vinh Moc tunnels. They survived, and even prospered in their makeshift underground community. Over the years 17 children were born in the tunnels. They had no choice; dig or die. This is an amazing example of the human will.
This half day tour covers the two significant historical sites in the DMZ area; the Freedom bridge over Ben Hai river at the 17th parallel and Vinh Moc tunnels. This tour can be started either from Phong Nha or from Dong Hoi. If you are heading south from Phong Nha to Hue, we would pick you up from there and drop you off in Hue.

We meet you up at your hotel in Phong Nha at 9.00am and head south to the former Demilitarized Zone ( the DMZ ).
- 11.00am arrival at Vinh Moc Tunnels - an underground refuge of the fishing village of Vinh Moc, located above the DMZ. In early 1965, the U.S began a massive bombing campain against North Vietnam with code name " Rolling Thunder ". The area above the DMZ became the most heavily bombed single piece of land on earth. Unable to live on the ground, the local inhabitants had to dig and move their homes into the ground. Vinh Moc tunnels is the best example of the tunnels system in the DMZ area. We visit the museum then walk underground, starting with an entrance on top of the clay cliff and finishing with an exit overlooking a wild beach.

Then, head south to Quang Tri city. Enroute, briefly stop at Gio Linh ( Alpha 2) firebase - an important fortified base of The McNamara Line. Continue
