Deep beneath the dark earth, hidden from screeching American Rolling Thunder bombing, the fishmen of the fishing village of Vinh Moc, located just above the DMZ lived for years in an underground refuge of Vinh Moc tunnels. They survived, and even prospered in their makeshift underground community. Over the years 17 children were born in the tunnels. They had no choice; dig or die. This is an amazing example of the human will.

We meet you at your hotel in Da Nang at 7.00am and head north to the former DMZ which is some 190 km from Da Nang. Stop at Quang Tri town to visit the ruin of Quang Tri Citadelto learn more about the East Offensive battle in 1972 when the North Vietnamsese Army forces launched an across- border offensive into South Vietnam and took over Quang Tri province . A fiece 81 day fighting took place in and around the Citadel of Quang Tri before the structure was reduced to rubble by bombing. Then continue to the the former DMZ, have a brief stop at Gio Linh ( A2 )fire support base, located right below the Vinh Moc tunnelssouthern edge of the DMZ, once an important part of the anti-infiltrationMc Namara Line before driving into the former Dimilitarized Zone ( DMZ ) - the old de-facto borderQuang Tri citadel in 1972 between North and South Vietnam for 18 years. We will take a walk on the Freedom Bridge across theBen Hai River - the river that was the only true physical demarcation line between the two Vietnams. The last stop of the day isVinh Moc Tunnels- the refuge of some 300 north Vietnamese refugees during Rolling Thunder bombing operation. Then, head back to Da Nang via Hai Van Pass. You are due to be back in Da Nang at about 5.00pm. End of the trip.
