Hue is culturally and historically significant. It was once Vietnam's Imperial City and later the country's capital under the Nguyen dynasty (1802-1945). Hue was a political football during hundreds of years of early Vietnamese dynastic turf wars with the Cham people in the south and the Chinese in the north. It wasn't until the late 18th century that the leaders of the Tay Son rebellion and Emperor Quang Trung, having routed the Chinese out of the north, established a capital at Hue. Later, the Nguyen dynasty emperorrs, beginning with powerful Gia Long, made Hue the capital that served the Vietnamese puppets of the French until the end of World War II. The first citadel and Imperial City was built by Gia Long in 1803 on a former royal site; many of the city walls still stand, battle scarred from fighting with the French as far back as 1873, and later with the Americans during the notorious Battle of Hue in 1968.

We meet you up at your hotel at 9.00am for a full day sightseeing tour of Hue.
In the morning take a boat cruise on the Perfume River which also gives us a taste of the scenic countryside as well as an enjoyable visit to the riverside Thien Mu pagoda which now becomes the symbol of Hue. Then, transfer by car to the mausoleum of Emperor Minh Mang - in a tranquil setting of gardens and lakes. The next stop is the tomb of Emperor
Khai Dinh - the 12th Emperor. This tomb is dubbed as the most beautiful royal tomb with a perfect combination of Asian and Western architecture and designs. Then, head back to the downtown for lunch break.
In the afternoon we spend almost half day strolling through the massive Imperial Citadel of Hue, containing the Imperial City and the Purple Forbidden City, the royal residence the Nguyen Emperors destroyed during the 1968 Tet Offensive, however it is still fascinating to walk among the ruins.
