PHONG NHA CAVE - VINH MOC TUNNELS - THE DMZ

This long driving day trip combines a bit history of Vietnam War and the natural beautiful landscape of Phong Nha National Park. Take a walk on the Freedom bridge - once the dividing line between North and South Vietnam, walk into the ground of Vinh Moc tunnels where the Vietnamese lived for years under the bombing and explore one of the world's best cave systems of Phong Nha cave. Admire the stunning stalagtites & stalagmites formed over millions of years and explore inside the cave on-board a boat as well as on foot
We meet you up from Dong Hoi railway station and head west to to Phong Nha national park. On arrival at Phong Nha, have lunch break at a local restaurant before taking boat ride to visit the majestic river cave. We spend about 50 minute breezy boat ride through the poetric scenery on the either side of Son river before being rowed into the cave for about 1,5 km to view the stunning stalagtites and stalagmites of the cave. We spend about 3 hours for the cave then get back to Phong Nha village for lunch break.
Head south to Hue. On the way we would visit the two historic sights of the Vietnam War in the former Demilitarized Zone ( DMZ ) - the former border Military Demarcation Line between North and South Vietnam from 1954 to 1972; the Freedom bridge or the so-called the Bridge of no Return over the river of Ben Hai - the former Military Demarcation Line between the 2 Vietnams. We will visit the DMZ museum and take a walk on this historic bridge. Then we head to the coast for the last stop of the day; Vinh Moc tunnels - an underground refuge of the fishing village of Vinh Moc, located above the DMZ. In early 1965, America began a massive bombing campain against North Vietnam with code name " Rolling Thunder ". The area above the DMZ became the most heavily bombed single piece of land on earth. Unable to live on the ground, the local inhabitants had to dig and move their homes into the ground. Vinh Moc tunnels is the best example of the tunnels system in the DMZ area. We visit the museum then walk into the ground, starting with an entrance on top of the clay cliff and finishing with an exit overlooing a wild beach.
We are due to arrive in in Hue at about 7.00pm. End of the trip.
